Design
I am a web designer, both on my personal projects and commercially. I am an advocate of web standards, going beyond simple validation to semantic XHTML markup.
Semantic XHTML markup returns the web to the original intention of XHTML, where XHTML doesn't describe what you want a document to look like but rather what it means. Proper semantic markup greatly simplifies design by making both the XHTML and CSS more readable. This website has been designed with that in mind, as a result it is valid XHTML 1.0 Strict, uses valid CSS, and is W3C AAA Accessible.
UFA
Ursula Franklin Academy (UFA) is a Toronto high school. The website is still in progress but you can click on the thumbnail at the right for a larger view. Please forgive the placeholder text and images, it's a result of its in-progress status. The site is actually a theme for the Joomla! content management system allowing anyone to update and expand the site, with no need for knowledge of HTML. The site was designed to incorporate the latest web standards, using technologies such as microformats for contact information.
CNIB
While working for the CNIB (Canadian National Institue for the Blind) I developed a new standardized documentation format. The work required both application development and the design of a stylish yet professional and flexible template. The template could not require any graphics design work to be done for each individual project, therefore relying heavily on text. The site also had to be accessible and therefore meets the very highest accessibility standards. You can of course click on the thumbnail for a larger version.
